What people are saying about Michael H. Crosby’s Choosing Compassion...
- As a psychologist and marriage counselor, I recommend Choosing Compassion to everyone. It gives a profound insight of how to move from control to compassion in a violent world. Michael Crosby shows that power can be used negatively as a force of control and manipulation which leads to fear, destructiveness and eventually war and then indifference, or it can used positively as a force for caring which leads to trust and freedom which leads to healing, helping and collaboration and a peaceful world.

Choosing Compassion has made a lasting impression on me. The most dramatic impact it had in terms of my everyday life, was with my kids, who are all teenagers.
Your insights and experience have been unbelievably helpful to me in my relationship with my kids. I know that I had never really understood the negative effects of control or the true power of forgiveness until now. When I recognized where I was falling short, I was able to work on making it right and in turn it has completely changed the dynamic that had been established between my children and myself.

This provides wonderful, helpful, needed material for today’s world. It clearly has been drawn from a lifetime of experience.
The context is rich, yet focused clearly in a step-by-step approach that all teachers should appreciate. Clear definitions of violence and abuse and the repeated emphasis on the primacy of care and the surrender of control lead so logically to the conclusion that trust and mutuality are vital to one working for growth and even survival.
An appropriate audience would be adults, young adults, and perhaps college age students. The material could be then communicated to younger people through its influence on older people. Parents and teachers might want to adapt it in their own ways.
I think this offers all of us a marvelous gift. Our congregation would like to use it in our different regions. Thanks so much.

- People of faith seem to sometimes be afraid of the word "power," as if power denotes only the power to control, manipulate or harm. Michael Crosby's video series Choosing Compassion awakens people of faith to the realization that we do have power--not just in our personal relationships but within our organizations, communities of worship and the world at-large--and that we can exercise that power in the service of justice and peace. Choosing Compassion helps to show us how.
