At the end of showing the six segments and participating in the sessions, what changes might take place in peoples’ lives and relationships (family/work)?

Those in your group should be more attentive to the relationships in their lives. Are they relating through the positive dynamics of care or through the negative dynamics of control? Participants should be more mindful of how conflicts occur and will have the skill set to resolve them through repentance and forgiveness. They will have learned that the power of non-violence and peace are the basis for deepening love and widening our circles of compassion.

How small or how large is the recommended size of the group?

The group can be as small as six or as large as the facilitator can comfortably work with. Because of the content, the facilitator may want to have smaller groups to ensure better participation and appropriation of the ideas presented. The exercises given can be done in smaller groups. The dynamic discussion points and exercises allow participants to learn from one another.

Our facilitator is not a teacher. Is this a problem?

The Choosing Compassion program has two approaches for each of the six segments. One is a "Step-By-Step" approach which walks the facilitator through each discussion point and exercise. We recommend that the facilitator preview the program and study guide prior to the class, but it is not necessary to have specific training. We have done all the work for you! The second approach, "Broad Strokes," is oriented to those facilitators who are seasoned presenters. It offers an outline with suggested discussion points and exercises. Both approaches are easy and do not require extensive lesson preparation.

Can we stop the DVD and have a discussion?

Of course. There is a lot of information in each segment. You may find it helpful to stop the video and develop a specific idea before moving into the next idea on the segment.

Can we show more than one segment at a time?

Each segment is designed for a 75 minute session or a 90 minute session. You could certainly do two segments in a four hour block or three segments for a full day session.

How do we use the Q & A video section?

We suggest that the facilitator review the Q & As prior to each session. If you find a particular discussion point intriguing, you may wish to show the Q & A that corresponds to that discussion point to help the group delve deeper in the material. The Q & A section can be especially helpful if your time block is longer than 75 minutes.
